Version 3 has been sold since 1999 but the client was first written around 1998 in a hobby effort to contact Microsoft’s early IIS and Novell Netware’s RADIUS Server. At that time it was clear the two servers were clones of the commonly available Meritt RADIUS server code. The simple client worked with both!

The server was written shortly after in 1999 and both the server and client have enjoyed success wherever Java is found.

Version 4 is the evolution of version 3 and is not compatible with previous versions. Much of the solid code in 3 has been transferred to 4 as the basic internals of both server remain very close. Improvements in 4 have been back ported to 3. This complementary development will continue for some time.

There is no plan to stop development of both systems with Version 3 now being the ‘light’ version. As the RFCs (Request for Comment) move on both versions will see improvement.

Any problems in V3 will continue to be addressed.
